At Hablee home care & services LLC, provider of home care in Fairfax, Virginia, one of our aims is to increase awareness about the different efforts being undertaken to better the lives of those living with dementia.
According to the National Institute on Aging (NIA), Veterans Affairs (VA) researchers are looking at strategies to support and nurture family members who provide personal care for veterans with Alzheimer’s disease in their own homes as they strive to understand and address the origins of the condition.
Since this year, a pilot program in partnership with the NIA has successfully recruited more than 60 veterans for study on Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias.
A major focus of the pilot’s efforts will be to recruit veterans from a variety of backgrounds and investigate the particular risks that this group faces.
Furthermore, the program emphasizes the formation of local veteran involvement organizations in collaboration with their VA hospital partners. The veteran engagement groups will be one of several ways used to solicit input and feedback from veterans.
Expansion into other centers with the addition and improvement of materials and methods to recruit participants are the future goals for this collaboration. You may visit the VA’s website for further details.
